Why One Guru’s Disciples Learn Unequally

Not all the disciples who receive instruction from one and the same Guru attain equal learning. All of them are surely seen listening to the Guru's words and offering him their worship — yet they do not attain equal learning. Have you ever considered why this is so? The truth is that the disciples who fail to attain the learning make a show of surrender, but never grasp its true meaning. By laying flowers at the Guru's feet, or by merely obeying the Guru's command, is surrender proven? No. The true meaning of surrender is that no doubt toward the Guru remains in the mind; that the disciple completes a task before the command has even left the Guru's lips; that the disciple's thoughts become one with the Guru's. Until the disciple beholds in his Guru the very forms of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, his surrender is not yet complete. In truth, surrender is not the name of any deed; surrender is the name of a feeling of the heart and a state of the mind. In other words, in our own ignorance, is the fault not our mind's alone? Reflect on it yourself.

एक ही गुरू के पास शिक्षा प्राप्त करने वाले सारे शिष्चे एक समान विद्या प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते। सारे शिष्चे गुरू की बातें सुनते हुए अवश्य दिखाई देते हैं, उनकी पूजा करते हुए दिखाई देते हैं। किन्तु एक समान विद्या प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते हैं क्या कभी विचार किया है ऐसा क्यों होता है सत्य तो यह है कि विद्या प्राप्त ना कर पाने वाले शिष्य समर्पन का दिखावा तो करते हैं किन्तु समर्पन का वास्तविक अर्थ नहीं समझ पाते हैं गुरु के चढ़नों में फूल चढ़ाने से अथवा गुरु का आदेश मानने मातर से क्या समर्पण दिध होता है। नहीं, समर्पण का वास्तविक अर्थ है जब गुरु के प्रती मन में कोई संदेह ना रहे। गुरु के मुख से आदेश निकले उससे पूर्व शिष्य उस कार्य को पूरा करते। गुरु के विचारों के साथ शिष्य के विचार एक हो जाए। शिष्य जब तक अपने गुरु में भ्रम्मा, विष्णु, महेश इनके रूप ना बेख ले, तब तक उसका समर्पण तक्ते नहीं। वास्तव में समर्पण किसी कार्य का नाम नहीं। समर्पण तो रिदे की भावना और मन की स्थिती का नाम है। अर्थात हमारे अज्ञान में क्या दोश केवल हमारे मन का नहीं वैम विचार की थी।
